Together with his father and sister, Lothar Gallistl planned the conversion of his sister Emilie's VW bus in 2019. It soon became clear that camping chairs and a table were not necessary, as they are bulky and impractical when it comes to compact travelling.
So a small idea quickly became the first self-supporting, at that time still rather rustic, "beer set" to pull out in the rear - a nice side effect, with a tailgate you don't necessarily need an awning to have a roof over your head.
So far so good - but when the conversion had to be removed one day so that the bus could be used as a caravan, things got tricky. 20 screws here, a few cable clamps there, and a few tension belts later, the four of us removed the part from the car and painstakingly placed it in the garage.
Especially the unique rear seat, but the whole handling had to be improved a lot. The bike is much more compact and easier to carry.
So it was off to the PC to work on the next "model" - by now Lothar realised that he absolutely needed a bus, otherwise he wouldn't be able to test a new prototype every few months - camping quickly became his passion.
At this time, former school friend and talented salesman Paul Schneider also joined the company. A name was quickly found: CampBoks, which means "camp box".
So Lothar and Paul developed the final prototype in Paul's parents' business, the Schneider joinery in Euratsfeld, before the CampBoks were exhibited for the first time at the Caravan Salon Austria in October - and people were thrilled.
CampBoks was founded at the end of 2022 and Lothar and Paul started selling the first boxes - the beginning of a new era.
